به‌روزرسانی جدید ChatGPT، این چت‌بات را به یک موتور جست‌و‌جو مبتنی‌بر هوش مصنوعی تبدیل می‌کند. بر اساس بیانیه‌ی مطبوعاتی OpenAI، چت‌‌جی‌پی‌تی ازاین‌پس می‌تواند اطلاعات را به‌صورت بلادرنگ از وب استخراج کند و به کاربران اشتراکی نمایش دهد. دسترسی کاربران نسخه‌ی رایگان، سازمانی و آموزشی ChatGPT در هفته‌های آینده امکان‌پذیر می‌شود.
OpenAI به‌جای انتشار سرویسی مستقل، تصمیم گرفته است موتور جست‌و‌جو را مستقیما در دل ChatGPT تزریق کند. به‌لطف این ویژگی جدید، شکاف بزرگ بین ChatGPT و رقبایی نظیر مایکروسافت کوپایلت و گوگل جمنای کم‌رنگ‌تر می‌شود. ازطرفی، قابلیت موردبحث ممکن است زنگ خطر را برای گوگل سرچ به‌صدا دربیاورد.
OpenAI برای نمایش توانایی‌های جدید ChatGPT، سهام اپل را جست‌و‌جو کرد و این چت‌بات در پاسخ، نمودار سهام، اطلاعات مالی مورد انتظار و مقاله‌های خبری را با لینک به منبع اصلی، به‌نمایش درآورد. یک منوی کناری شامل فهرست منابع نیز به ChatGPT اضافه شده است.
قابلیت جست‌و‌جو در وب، وارد تمامی نسخه‌های ChatGPT در پلتفرم‌های مختلف مثل آی‌او‌اس، اندروید و مک‌او‌اس و ویندوز می‌شود.
به گفته‌ی OpenAI، موتور جست‌و جو ChatGPT نتیجه‌ی «ترکیبی از فناوری‌های جست‌و‌جو» ازجمله مایکروسافت بینگ است. مدل مورد استفاده، نسخه‌ی اصلاح‌شده‌ی GPT-4o به‌حساب می‌آید.
تا پیش از انتشار به‌روزرسانی جدید، دانش ChatGPT به سال‌های ۲۰۲۱ یا ۲۰۲۳ (بسته به مدل زبانی مورد استفاده) محدود می‌شد. OpenAI می‌گوید با وجود آغازبه‌کار Chatgpt Search Engine، داده‌های مورد استفاده برای تعلیم ChatGPT همچنان به‌روز خواهند شد.
